Commanders!
A great vehicle deserves a place in every Garage and this week's Collector's Gem,the
V
SU-85I
, is worthy of some attention.
When the Soviet army first encountered advanced German tanks like the Tiger and the Panther, they realized that they would need more powerful vehicles to handle these heavily armored beasts. Various concepts were proposed, ideas were tossed around, and experiments were conducted. Early tests demonstrated that an 85 mm anti-aircraft gun was powerful enough to take out a Tiger I from a safe distance and that combining a captured German Pz.Kpfw. III tank with this powerful Soviet cannon could prove successful. Creating such a prototype did not require building an entirely new tank and thus, the SU-85I was born.
While the concept never made it past the prototype stage, the simple, relatively cheap, but highly effective machine continues to roll out in World of Tanks. It has the potential to inflict over 2,000 DPM and boasts a 500 HP pool—one of the best for a Tier V tank destroyer. Its good camouflage values and 330 m view range can give you an extra edge in battle. Equip a Binocular Telescope to increase the view range even further, spot enemies sooner, and take them out from a safe distance.
Available from October 26 at 07:00 CEST through October 28 at 07:00 CEST (UTC+2).
