Update 1.0: Preload Option

Update: The second stage of preloading has started. Sizes: 2.21 GB for SD; 2.28 GB for HD.

We know quite well that waiting for the end of an update to download and install on the release day is hardly convenient. Therefore, we have recently added the option to download updates in advance. As Update 1.0 is fairly big, the preloading will happen in multiple stages.

The first stage of the preload is expected to start this evening. As long as you choose the correct settings (see below), the download is going to start as soon as the files for Update 1.0 are available for preloading.

Preloading the update will decrease the load on the game services on the day of the official release. Having pre-downloaded the update, you will be able to join the game right after patch release without a delay.

What is preloading?

Basically, you're downloading files for a future update in advance (approximate size of Update 1.0: 5.65 GB for the SD client and 6.29 GB for the HD client). These files will be installed only on the day of the official release. The installation will be performed after starting the launcher, once the work on the game servers is over.

Does preloading affect the possibility of playing World of Tanks?

Not at all, you will be able to play World of Tanks whenever you like. However, if this function is enabled, the download process will be automatically paused and resumed right after quitting the game. You can pause the download at any moment.

What happens if I preload the SD version in the first stage but switch to the HD version in the next one?

In that case, the HD version of the current update plus the HD version of 1.0 of the first stage will be downloaded. Afterwards, the SD and HD versions of the next stage of Update 1.0 will be preloaded.

Where are the update files stored? Can I copy them to a portable device and share them with a friend?

Yes, you will be able to share them with your friends, since the update files will be stored in the standard folder on your computer С:\Games\World_of_Tanks\Updates (or, if your friend has installed the game in another folder Your drive:\Games\World_of_Tanks\Updates).

If I click the Pause button in the launcher, will the download continue the next time or start anew?

It will resume the download.

Can I select SD/HD options during preloading?

No, only files that correspond to the currently installed version will be downloaded.
